MPEG-2 - Video compression used in TV systems. Expanded its capabilities to high definition resulting in the ending of the MPEG-3 high definition project.

MPEG-4 (part 2) - A video compression process that worked well on IP packet video systems. MPEG-2 video compression does not work well in systems that have bursty errors.

MPEG-4 (part 10) Advanced Video Coding (AVC)/H.264 - A more efficient video compression system that works well on IP packet video systems. The added compression is approximately 2:1.

SMPTE VC-1 - A video compression system developed by Microsoft (windows media player). Similar compression to MPEG-4, part 10.
